Birthday Craft and Band-aid Ideas

Birthday Cupcake: This is a great idea for a decoration or a b-day gift.  What I did differently was use a regular cupcake wrapper instead of making one.  Also, for the frosting part of the cake, I cut the strips of paper to different widths and made the paper curl differently. Band-aids: Something I thought about is using band-aids for a kind of healing journal/scrapbook.  Throughout our lives, we have times of healing.  One way to help with the healing process could be to create a journal or a scrapbook.  As an accent, you could use band-aids that have words of inspiration or healing quotes.  Or create a border with the band-aids.  Use them to tape down photos or as part of the binding.

“Time heals all wounds.”

“We must always change, renew, rejuvenate ourselves; otherwise we harden.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“Laughter is the best medicine.”

“Love is the great miracle cure. Loving ourselves works miracles in our lives.”
   Louise L. Hay (born 1926)

Other ideas: You could also use band-aids as part of a get well card.  You could also write and decorate fun little words or quotes or with a name of an organization as a fundraiser item.

More V-day Crafts

Here are some more V-day crafts for you guys!!  The first one I’ve already made, the second one I’m gonna make, and the links are some other ideas of what you can make.  Also, consider making your own chocolates.  There are kits that provide you with the molds, chocolate, candies, and other tools you need to make your own chocolates.  Happy Crafting!!

Puffy Hearts: With these little guys, I got different scrapbook paper and folded the paper in half so I could cut out equal shaped hearts.  After that, I sewed the hearts together, put some stuffing in them, and added a sticker to the front.  You can attach a string to them to make it an ornament, or you could attach a stick onto it to stick in with those flowers you’re getting your sweetheart!!

Stained glass hearts: Waxed paper+crayons+iron= sweet little crafted hearts (or any shape really)

Volunteer Craft Class

About once a month I go to the day program at my mom’s office to do crafts with the adults there.  They have been an awesome group and have done very well with the crafts I have found for them to do.  I try to do a craft that has them follow directions a little more closely and then I do one that gives them the freedom to create something of their own.  Here are the crafts I‘ve done with them so far.

Painted Ornaments:  These are really simple to make!!  All you do is get clear, glass ornaments, some craft paints, and pour the paints into the ornaments.  You then swirl the ornament around to create a marbled effect and let the extra paint drain out.  These are great for Christmas and as other gifts as well.

Snow Flakes:  Before now, I would have never thought of using q-tips for crafts.  With these, make the q-tips into a shape of a snow flake, put tacky glue at all the points, sprinkle some glitter on the glue, and let it dry.  Just a fair warning.  Be very careful not to knock around the q-tips before you glue them.  They can move out of place pretty easily.

Sun Catchers:  This was one of the crafts where the adults could be creative with what they did.  I think my favorite was a heart that one punched out “I love you mom” on his sun catcher.  You really can do any sizes and shapes to make these.  I made one with three small stars, punched out different designs on them, and strung them together.  Just a fair warning, your fingers may get sore from punching out the holes.  Also, you can try using different sized nails to punch holes with.

Monkeys:  These turned out pretty cute!!  Now, I had a problem with my first monkey staying together.  I guess I didn’t let the tacky glue dry long enough before putting the ears and tail on.  So when you do this, leave the monkey down on the table as you attach the parts together.  Also, let the body dry for a couple of hours before attaching the ears and tail.  You just don’t want to move them around too much cause the glue won’t hold together.

I love making crafts for people as presents.  I have found that it means a lot more to a person if you make something for them rather than buying something that may not be as personal.  And also, it helps to keep a little extra cash in your wallet!!  If you have never made something for someone before, you should try it out.  There are many great websites out there with tons of ideas on what you can make.  Here are just some ideas that might you might want to try out.

For Christmas, I made most of my presents.  There were a lot of people I wanted to give presents to and making the presents was more fun then trying to find something everyone would like at the store.  These presents were simple to make, but turned out to be a lot of fun.

Magnets are a great personal gift.  All you need is some pictures or colored paper, a 1in. hole punch, 1 in. circle resin epoxy drops, and magnets (either ones with sticky backs or ones to glue on).
I got the stock paper and hole punch from the craft store, the drops from Etsy, and magnets from the hardware store.
1. Punch out circles from card stock.
2. Peel off the drops and stick to the paper circles.
3. Glue or stick on the magnets to the back.

I also made bath salts and sugar scrubs.  With both of these, I got two dozen 1/2 pint jars from the store to put the salts and scrubs in.

I just measured out the amount of salts I would need for the number of jars I had to store them in and put in as much food coloring and fragrance as I thought I would need.  I did two different fragrances and colors for the salts.  One was purple with a lavender fragrance.  The other was pink with a Hawaiian Mist fragrance.

For the scrubs, I made both kinds.  For the cinnamon vanilla one, I just used a cinnamon vanilla oil instead of adding the vanilla extract.  One batch of this made about 4 jars.  For the brown sugar spice one, I didn’t make any changes to the ingredients and it made about 8 jars.
